Flat-top vs Luffing — What We Tell Buyers Before the PO

Open high-rise pads usually favor flat-top tip-load charts and trolley productivity when boom length is unconstrained. Dense city blocks with neighbor swing limits usually need a luffing jib so the jib can raise clear — accepting lower tip load at the working radius and more winch cycles. Potain sizes both classes against the same freestanding height, lifting capacity and ground pressure (kPa) inputs so the plot, not the brochure max, drives the choice.

Limits we state on day one: published tip load is valid only at the stated radius; out-of-service wind cases above the AS 2550 design envelope force earlier climb or tie-in; multi-crane overlap often caps simultaneous hoist speed for encoder-verified zone safety.
